Phil's Video Blog 233 - https://youtu.be/BFTbAXnbVHQ An update on my left eye problem, and the plan of attack, plus Paul Johnson remembered.  He sadly passed away this month. He will be missed by many. I had the honor to work along side him at Radio Tircoed, and also helped him out a number of times. He had so much energy and was always on the go, I couldn't keep up. He would put many able bodied people to shame with all the charitable work he carried out. Eye Issue, Diabetes, Jabs and Mental Health

Image
Really fed up with my left eye. Floaters and blurriness.  Went to the hospital on Monday, had eye drops and then pictures taken. Went in to get eye examined. The specialist confirmed that there had been a bleed at the back of the eye, but couldn't see the source of it, so decided not to zap with laser to fix the issue. My eye seems to be producing lots of gunk, keep having to wipe clean, some mornings have to unstick my left eye. Using gentle eye drops which seem to help. A further appointment for Monday 13th December has been made, so this blog post will be updated further then. Now, the eye problem is diabetes related, on the Friday before I saw the diabetic nurse, good news, blood sugars are down close to where they should be, it is still the intention to get me off the Insullin as soon as is possible. Also my cholesterol is in a good place.  While in with the nurse, I chatted to her about how I was feeling. Told her that I am fed up, and that I can't bring mysel

Wallop; what a life... NOT!

Image
It is sure annoying, when you go somewhere and can't do what you really want to do because the pain is so great. Was down in Wallington dog and house sitting, and went out to walk the dog, Nikki, in Richmond Park. Started out ok, but soon went down hill. My knees started playing up clicking and popping, then my left hip followed by my lower back. Had to sit down and take a few pain killers. The next thing that occured wass I started to get problems with my breathing and a tight chest, nothing too bad, but enough to knock the wind out of my sails.  Headed back to the car and went back to the house. Once back I tried to relax and rest. Even sitting out in the sun in the garden didn't really help. The heat did with my back and other body pains, but the air was so still, dry and hot that I could hardly breath. Later in the evening I started to get more pain, all over, pins and needles overload, thumping headache and felt clammy. Had to go to bed, even though I wanted to watch a fe

Two Appointments Today 05/08/2021

Image
I had two appointments today. The first one this morning, in Singleton Hospital, with Dr Nash (Rheumatology). He just wanted to touch base in person. He poked and prodded a bit to see where and if I was tender in places. He did find a few areas, still feeling where he located them even after 5 hours passing from the appointment. The second was a virtual one, a video call with physiotherapy at Morriston. They say I'm doing ok with the exercises I was given, keep doing them, but if I get in too much pain don't keep going, just stop. If the pain keeps about for over half hour after then I have done too much. I also have to remember to stop beating my self up over things that I have no control over. Things will improve, just have to give things time. With having Ankylosing Spondylitis and Osteoarthritis, coupled with a slight heart condition and also fibromyalgia (specialist today in Singleton said it seems it is a sure thing that I have that due to being lethargic, run down, pain

27th July - Another Bad Health Day

Image
So another really bad, bad health day. Woke up hardly able to move, in total agony 😔. From my neck right down to my knees, and feeling very sick with it. It' just as well I have an empty bucket close to the bed along with a flask of water. Really hate getting days like this, seem to be getting them at least once every two weeks. When I am not this bad I still get some days when I am unable to get downstairs, so am really a prisoner in my flat, unable to get out side in to the fresh air. It really is doing my head in when I am stuck in. If I was in a bungalow or a downstairs flat, at least I would stand a fighting chance of getting out side. I was sent some exercises to do from physio at Morriston Hospital, done some, but not all yet. I find it is best to do them on my pine wooden chair as it don't move when I am trying to move. I have got another virtual video call coming up on 5th August in the afternoon, but before that an appointment at Singleton Hospital. I have spoken to

Covid - Anti Body Test and Masks

Image
I was invited by the ZOE COVID-19 app to order a Covid anti-body test. I have the ZOE C-19 app on my phone and report how I am feeling on a daily basis as I am in their symptom study. The package arrived with lancets, a little test tube with lid and alcohol wipes. I followed the instructions, and filled the tube with blood from my middle finger. I packaged the tube up as requested and sent it off, I dropped it in to the Royal Mail Sorting Office Priority Post Box on Friday morning. I had an email on Sunday morning saying in the last six months it was unlikely that I have had Covid. Now, with restrictions easing in England from Monday morning, I was shocked to read about a selfish member of the Royals, which one I hear you ask, Prince Charles. If others follow his example then it will be clear that a huge number of people living in the UK are actually sheep that follow the flock and ONLY DO THINGS when told to. Everyone has a brain of their own, why on earth don't you use it?. Thi

Health Update Concern - 5th July 2021

Image
Well, my theory of being ok for the first week after doing my Imraldi injection has been blown out of the water well and truly. Woke up at about 5:30am this morning with terrible neck pain, which is also affecting the top part of my back and shoulders. Along with the pain, I have got like a high-pitched sound in my head. Not too sure what is causing it. Think it could very well be a trapped nerve, more or less curtain about that, but could be wrong.  This better go soon, doing my head in. What a way to start a new week. I am pleased I got out yesterday to see a friend whose birthday it was and his dog, Jet. If you suffer with Spondylitis check out this great site with a very supportive community   https://www.myspondylitisteam.com/

Health Latest - 3rd July 2021

Image
Health Latest, posted 3rd July 2021 Well, Thursday just gone I did my 2 weekly injection, Imraldi (that's its brand name, I can spell that with no problems!), as normal, it hurts, but its nothing compared to how things turn out any number of days AFTER doing it. It was Wednesday 30th June, the day before the injection. I woke up with slight back pain, which normal for me on a scale of 1 to 10 about a 4. Everything was going fine for the first few hours, I pottered about the flat doing this and that. I managed to get out for some fresh air, a quick wobble around the block and back.  Got in and felt a bit sleepy, so had a nap, as it was warm, I decided to lay down in the bedroom, it is always nice and cool in there. A few hours later I was awoken by a sharp shooting pain in my back up to my neck and across to my shoulders, on my scale it was either an 8 or 9. I had to get to my pain killers and quick, which is not easy. Anyway, the pain kept at that level until about 10pm when it sta

Health Update - 18th June 2021

Image
Health Update - 18th June 2021 So, following an MRI scan the other week, today I had a telephone consultation with a specialist from the hospital. Confirmed, I have Osteoarthritis in my back to go with my Ankylosing Spondylitis (which my 2 weekly injection works on, which explains towards the end of the two weeks I am in more pain). It is due to wear and tear.  The specialist asked if I have ever lifted anything heavy on a regular basis when I was working, as far as I know I have never lifted anything on a regular basis! They want to do more investigating when they open up for appointments again.  The specialist likes my way of describing things. Every day pain (that's the osteo) bad day pain (when it's a really bad flair up). The specialist noticed some things had been written in my notes but no follow up on them.  He wants to find out why and get further investigations done, Fibromyalgia being one of them. I like this specialist.  He is pleased I am doing light exercises, and

Asian Tiger Mosquito to invade UK

Image
I feel all itchy reading this..... Pic: Asian Tiger Mosquito Ok, what is this, it's like we are living in biblical times, first we get a virus, now it's time for a plague!... Brits are being told to keep their windows closed as the country is braced to be invaded by a host of disease carrying bugs. The Mirror reports that mosquitoes carrying deadly viruses such as Zika are believed to be entering the UK and could be circulating already, health experts have warned. This is because the warmer weather, combined with recent and upcoming thunderstorms, create the ideal breeding grounds for them. The latest advice is that we should be keeping all of our windows closed and even load up on the garlic breath. Coconut oil could help reduce being bitten or sooth any bites.

UPDATED 30th March: Lockdown Easing, I'm worrying

Image
Since the Covid-19 situation started, my mental health has been all over the place, a roller coaster ride of ups and downs. Now that things are looking like they are easing I am scared, frightened to be mixing with people. The friend I am in a bubble has noticed that I have changed. I am not sure I can mix with people again, my mind is not up to it, I am not sure I know how to properly anymore.  As daft as it sounds, I think being social for me is out of the question. I am scared to be social in person with people out in the world. Scared I will catch something, scared I can't get on any more, scared I can't live life again. I feel like I will be trapped in my mind when everyone else is venturing out in to the wide world to live again. I have breathing issues, blood pressure problems and depression, all of which Covid has impacted and amplified. Attempting to go to shops to get fresh produce that I really like to choose my self has led to shortness of breath and panic attacks

Updated 17th March: Oxford-AstraZeneca vac suspended in parts

Image
Now I am not one to panic or worry but..... nahhhhh, who am I kidding PANIC! WORRY! PANIC SOME MORE..... 😱 I have just read this on Twitter The Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine has been suspended in the Republic of Ireland Ireland’s health ministry NIAC recommended the move following reports of serious blood clotting events in adults in Norway, BBC News reports. Meanwhile, WHO said countries should not stop using the vaccine due to there being no link between Oxford-AstraZeneca and an increased risk of developing a clot. The Public Health Agency in Northern Ireland said it would "closely monitor" the situation. Photo via @Reuters @BBCWorld News said, In a statement, Northern Ireland's Department of Health said it administers vaccines under the "expert direction of the MHRA". It said it had received guidance from the MHRA in light of the vaccine's suspension in the Republic and that the "roll-out of Northern Ireland's vaccination programme will

Mental Health: Feeling Empty

Image
I was standing in the kitchen waiting for the kettle to boil, with my walking stick in hand, looking out the window, I had a feeling of emptiness as I stood. I made my tea, went out in to the hall, cuppa in hand, sat on the sofa feeling down, until Smokie jumped up and meowed at me then started purring - bless him. I have a friend, Su, who has lost her cat Minnie. Seems she may have wandered off, but I have noticed a number of black cats that have gone missing lately around Swansea. I have been talking to Smokie, and thinking. I do think Smokie needs to be with her. At Su's Smokie can go outside to frolic in the 🌞 sun and be company for her.  While it pains me to have to give him up, I feel it will be best for him in the long run. He has his toys and his boxes what would go with him, with familiar smells on them, I could still spoil him lots.  I think I need a dog so I have a reason for going out and get gentle exercise. I have tried twice to put Smokie on a harness, wasn't a

Had first part of my vaccine - edited 14th March

Image
So, Saturday I had the first part of the Covid vaccine . I had the Oxford AstraZeneca one. Don't get me wrong, I am over joyed to have been called up for it, but the side effects since are not too good, but as people keep telling me, "it's a sign it is working", geee, thanks for that! Before I go any further I want to say a massive thank you to AstraZeneca and also the University of Oxford, and the Swansea Bay NHS health board for getting this out. During yesterday afternoon my arm started hurting and then I started feeling as if I had a head cold coming on. Later in the evening my mind got a bit foggy. Day two since first part of vaccine jab,  I was woken at about 5am this morning. Feeling worse,  , woke up in a pool of sweat, and somehow managed to squash my pillow up and out of its pillowcase in the night. The sweat I could have done without, it was horrible waking up to that, when all I wanted to do was stay in bed, waking up in sweat just made me have to get up s
